The North Sea is a shallow shelf sea with a connection to the Atlantic. The southern part, the Doggerland, lay dry for a long time and once connected the British Isles to mainland Europe. The changing tides shape the fascinating landscape of the Wadden Sea. The tidal range on the German and Danish coast is approx. 2 - 4.5 metres and off the coast you can find numerous islands with stunning sandy beaches.
